As the founder of Cuckoo Home, Hong Loi (Connie) CHEN has been pondering about how to provide the young patients and their families with emotional support and motivation in addition to financial help in terms of food and accommodation, especially as most of the children have never been to school for a long time due to their constant travels to hospitals for treatment and rehabilitation.
Connie was inspired by her years of experience as an intern at SDAC:
To bring the art of drama into the hospital, to heal the fear and helplessness of children when faced with cold medical equipment and drugs, Drama Healing | 戏剧疗愈 was born.
Drama Healing | Cuckoo Home | SDAC
is a joint charity initiative of Cuckoo Home and SDAC (Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre).
Healing Through Voices
As auditory component of Drama Healing | Cuckoo Home | SDAC, professional actors from SDAC and YCIS students were invited into the studio to record poetry readings from the book "Little Poets in the Mountains" as well as literature written by the students themselves, set to music and produced as MP3 audio, which was donated by Cuckoo Home and SDAC. delivered the music to children and families at the Shanghai Fudan University Children’s Hospital so that they can receive the same education in literature, art and drama as they do in the classroom during their treatment and recovery, thus gaining confidence and courage to overcome their illness.

Healing Through Stories
Healing Through Stories, the visual component of Drama Healing | Cuckoo Home | SDAC, was inspired by the poetry collection "The Little Poet in the Mountains " and was led by Ms. Elena Hasnas, YCIS Shanghai's Artist-in-Residence. Cuckoo Home and YCIS students created art pieces with the aim of creating a safe and supportive environment that can have a profound impact on one's healing journey by creating a sense of connection and validation between individuals.
All of 'Healing Through Stories' art works are displayed on the theme wall of the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre in order to promote Cuckoo Home's activities to a wider audience. We hope that more people will be aware of the need for help by spreading the concept of Drama Healing.
