The Story of
Cuckoo Home
Cuckoo Home was established by Hong Loi (Connie) Chen, a YCIS Shanghai Puxi Gubei Campus student, using her first YCIS YCYW IB Study Scholarship to lead a group of Year 12 students at YCIS Puxi Gubei Campus to create a charitable learning project. After receiving the scholarship for the second year in a row, Connie Chen continues to donate the scholarship to the Cuckoo Home program, which aims to raise awareness of families in need of support among students and to foster kindness, compassion, leadership, and communication, compassion, leadership, communication, and other vital virtues and skills. At the same time, Cuckoo Home is working to provide young patients with equitable medical, life, and learning opportunities for growth.
In partnership with the Shanghai Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, Cuckoo Home hopes to appeal to YCYW families in the community to lend a helping hand in the form of donations, business projects, and social services to provide fair, convenient, and safe services and assistance in all aspects of accommodation and living for those families who come to the Shanghai Children’s Hospital of Fudan University for medical treatment, as well as access to equitable educational opportunities.
Cuckoo Home has received much attention from the Shanghai community and has been interviewed by media outlets such as "Xinmin Daily", "That's Shanghai" and "SDAC" in order to reach out to the community. We have also organized cross-campus events, original design sales, collaborative art projects, and donations with various organizations, and initiated training for program members on the management of the program so that the program can be passed on to the next generation of students and continue to thrive. Stay tuned for future Cuckoo Home projects!
